San Blas works all year, but the months feel different. The dry season, roughly mid-December to April, brings steady trade winds, little rain and the clearest water. It is the classic sailing season and also the busiest, so yachts and private flights book out months ahead, especially over Christmas, New Year and Easter.
May to July is our quiet favourite. The trades ease, showers pass through in the afternoon and clear again, the islands are almost empty and rates are lower. The sailing is gentler, which suits guests who are not chasing 20 knots of wind, and the snorkelling is still good on most days between rain showers.
August to mid-November is the wettest stretch. Rain comes in bursts rather than all day, and you still get plenty of sun, but visibility on the reefs varies and plans need more flexibility. Because we move the yacht according to the forecast every morning, a wet week rarely means a bad week; it means different anchorages.
Water temperature stays between about 27 and 29 degrees Celsius all year, so swimming is never the question. Air temperatures sit in the low thirties with a sea breeze at anchor. Hurricanes do not track over Panama, which is one reason San Blas stays sailable when parts of the Caribbean shut down.
If you want the postcard version, come in February or March and book early. If you want the islands to yourself and a better price, come in May, June or early July. Tell us your travel window on WhatsApp and we will say honestly what the conditions are usually like and what is still available.
